Substance Use Disorder and Prevention

Description

Substance use disorder (SUD) is a complex and chronic condition that affects individuals across all demographics and care settings. This comprehensive course equips nurses with the knowledge and tools to identify, prevent, and manage SUD using trauma-informed and evidence-based approaches. Key topics include epidemiology, early screening and intervention, adolescent and perinatal considerations, pharmacologic and psychosocial therapies, and the role of interdisciplinary care. Emphasis is placed on prevention strategies, motivational interviewing, continuing care, and supporting patients with co-occurring mental health disorders. Nurses will deepen their understanding of SUD as both a behavioral and medical condition and leave with practical skills for compassionate, nonjudgmental care.
