Pharmacologic Management of Asthma
Description
Asthma remains a leading cause of chronic respiratory morbidity across all age groups, requiring nuanced pharmacologic strategies tailored to the unique pathophysiology and developmental considerations of children, adolescents, and adults. This course equips advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) with the skills and knowledge necessary to manage asthma pharmacotherapy across the lifespan, using current guidelines and evidence from GINA (2024), ERS/ATS, and UpToDate clinical sources. Topics include stepwise controller and reliever medication selection, SMART therapy, biologic agents for severe asthma, and practical approaches to treatment adherence, device use, and individualized escalation and de-escalation strategies. Pediatric and adult populations are addressed as distinct cohorts with age-appropriate clinical applications.
