LGBTQ Considerations in Healthcare
Description
LGBT individuals face unique healthcare challenges, ranging from social stigma and discrimination to gaps in provider knowledge and clinical guidance. This continuing education course equips licensed practical nurses (LPNs), registered nurses (RNs), and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) with the foundational and clinical tools necessary to provide affirming, equitable care to sexual and gender minorities. Topics include gender development, culturally competent communication, primary care principles for transgender and LGB populations, reproductive and mental health considerations, hormone therapy, and gender-affirming surgical care. Emphasis is placed on understanding health disparities, applying current clinical guidelines, and delivering trauma-informed, person-centered care. Nurses will be better prepared to advocate for safety, dignity, and evidence-based support for LGBT individuals across all care settings.
