Acute Myeloid Leukemia: Diagnosis, Classification, and Clinical Management
Description
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a complex and heterogeneous group of hematologic malignancies with varying clinical presentations, molecular subtypes, and therapeutic approaches. This course equips licensed nurses—including LPNs, RNs, and APRNs—with comprehensive knowledge of AML pathophysiology, classification systems (WHO and ICC), diagnostic evaluation, and evidence-based treatment protocols. The content explores induction and post-remission therapy in fit and medically unfit adults, pediatric AML, complications such as CNS involvement, and relapse management. Emphasis is placed on nursing roles in care coordination, supportive care, patient education, psychosocial support, and survivorship. By understanding AML at both the cellular and clinical levels, nurses will be better prepared to participate in interdisciplinary planning and improve outcomes for patients across the lifespan.
